It’s been an exciting week with the launch of Home & Away – an anthology of New Zealand travel writing.
TravCom have pulled the book together from award-winning travel stories written by New Zealand travel writers over the last 20 years. They have run the New Zealand Travel Writing Awards since the early 1990s and 30 stories were picked from over that time to go be included. And – in a moment of shameless self-promotion – I was lucky enough to have a story chosen to go in it.
It’s rather humbling to be in the company of awesome travel writers like Steve Braunias, Kapka Kassabova, Yvonne van Dongen and Gerard Hindmarsh. And I didn’t make it to the launch in Auckland and get to shake everyone’s hands and get my copy signed. But it’s great to see my story about D’Urville Island in print, in a book not a magazine, and helping to tell the story of NZ travel writing.
