It’s an inspiring place of great natural beauty and strong sustainability practices, surrounded by verdant native forest, expansive views and the mountains of the Abel Tasman National Park. It also provides a peaceful place of retreat and learning, either for individual guests or for groups.

Anahata offers a wide range of residential yoga retreats from a few days to a month in length, and is also available for hire as an eco-friendly, catered venue for groups, schools or as a healing or workshop space. it is an authentic ashram-style stay. Visitors are welcome to join the daily yoga practices, which are based on ancient Indian practices.

Throughout the day there is ample free time for visitors to relax, unwind and enjoy the quiet solitude of this beautiful place. Wander through the organic gardens and native forest surrounding Anahata or venture further to a nearby waterfall and the Abel Tasman National Park. Delicious vegetarian meals are served through the day, using fresh produce from the centre’s gardens and orchards or from local suppliers.

Explore Your ‘Self’ Yogic Lifestyle Retreat – runs through the year

This 7 day/6 night stay is a light retreat that provides guests with an easy mix of yoga practices and free time. In addition to the daily schedule of hatha yoga classes, yoga nidra, guided meditation and practicing karma yoga (action with awareness), guests are welcome to join residents and staff at Anahata for daily morning chanting, weekly satsang (spiritual discussion), kirtan (singing mantras to music) on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and havan (an ancient fire ceremony).

Permaculture and Yoga Retreat – 12 – 28 November 2015

The theme of this retreat is – Outer Ecology Meets Inner Ecology – explores the link between living an aware, sustainable lifestyle and the deeper practices of mindful yoga and meditation. Permaculture and Yoga are two different practices and ways of life. Both aspire for harmony –  inner or personal harmony, as well as harmony with the surroundings.

This 17 day residential course is hosted by Robina McCurdy, passionate permaculturalist, and Anahata residents. Permaculture is a creative and artful way of designing our lives, where waste becomes resources, productivity and yields increase, work is minimized, and people and nature are preserved – all by thoughtful planning and a respectful approach to life.

Yoga Retreat with Senior Teachers

Theme-specific 7 day/6 night retreats with senior teachers can be tailored to clients’ request. This is ideal for retreats requiring a more specific focus, eg. Detox, Hatha Yoga Cleanse, Women’s Health, Healthy Eating, Meditation Retreat, Yoga and the Chakras, or Prana – the Vital Energy. Theme-specific retreats are more intensive with morning and afternoon sessions on the covered topic by senior teachers plus the daily schedule including hatha yoga classes, yoga nidra, guided meditation, and practicing karma yoga (action with awareness), as above.

Private Sessions

Private Sessions are a unique opportunity to receive one-on-one practices and insights to suit your personality, body type and health challenges. Accommodation Options

View from Anahata Yoga Retreat, Golden BayChakra (above) is a large, private studio space with a queen bed and a single, with own bathroom, wood-burning fire, large deck and expansive coastal views. It has tea-making facilities and can be fitted with a small gas burner to provide a self-contained stay. Hot water is gas-heated and the space is lit by solar power. There is charging available for portable devices. Chakra is also available for exclusive use.

Chakra accommodation house - Anahata Yoga Retreat, Golden Bay Shankaraya (above) is a larger two bedroom cottage with room to sleep up to six people in shared or private spaces. A full bathroom and small kitchen with a wood fire keep it cosy. The cottage is available for shared or exclusive use and can be set up for a self-catering stay. Lighting is by solar and hot water is heated by the wood stove or gas.

The Sleeping Hut is a very simple space with two bunk beds. There is no power to this space but candle light adds to the mood. Guests use the facilities in the main house

Camping – bring your own tent or hire one on site. There are some delightful spots around the gardens to camp. Guests use the facilities in the main house.
